Pressure Ulcers and other Skin Lesions: Assessment, Treatment and Documentation
Nurses working with a geriatric population will encounter pressure ulcers and other skin lesions frequently. This course will help the learner to be better able to identify and stage pressure ulcers using the updated NPUAP definitions, and to distinguish pressure ulcers from other common skin lesions such as incontinence-associated dermatitis, vascular and diabetic wounds, and less common lesions. The learner will also be able to identify a variety of dressing types and their appropriate use.

Objectives
As a result of completing this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Distinguish pressure ulcers from other skin lesions
  • Stage pressure ulcers using the updated NPUAP terminology
  • Understand different dressing types and their functions
  • Understand important aspects of clinical and legal documentation of pressure ulcers and other skin lesions
